The rental market here is very fast. Most owners will hold a property for 30 days or
less. This means that the best time to start looking is about 45 days prior to moving.
Some things you should know about the local market are:
1. The security deposit is usually one to one and a half months. Pet deposits vary
from $25 to half a month's rent. Move-in costs also vary, but generally include the first
month's rent, security deposit, any pet deposit, and deposits for utilities. Each landlord
can negotiate these terms with any tenant.
2. Costs, of course, vary greatly from area to area. 2 Bedroom Apartments
can be found for as little as $450 per month to as much as you want to spend. Condos
are also available as are townhouses and multi-family type units. Cost varies depending on
the amenities that come with the unit; for example, washers/dryers, central air,
refrigerator/stove/ovens, and, in complexes, pools, gym, workout rooms, etc.
3. Single family homes offer the same variables. Prices, however, on a
three-bedroom house with 1,000 to 1,200 square feet that sells for $100,000 will be about
$850 per month. Prices are even higher for a prestigious address and extra amenities.
